The who, what and why.
I take a documentary approach to photography, focusing on the natural and candid, rather than posed. During our session you'll rarely hear, "Say cheese.” If you're looking for a more traditional or formal shot, we can certainly take some of those; but it won't be the style that I lead with. Instead I'll suggest that we go for a walk around the neighborhood, play on the playground, set the table for dinner, or snuggle on the couch for story time.
Photographs taken in your own space, in the places you feel most comfortable, will tell a story that simply cannot be encapsulated in a studio. Certainly, there are other locations that are special to you and your family and sessions can be held there as well.
We'll need an atmosphere with natural lighting where we can all relax, be ourselves and have some fun. Imagine me as the crazy friend or relative who brings her camera to every event and just snaps away when no one is looking. Sometimes, the road to beautiful photos isn't always smooth and when it comes to uncooperative or less-than-enthusiastic kids, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the honest moments we're able to capture. Wear whatever expresses the feel of your family, no need to pull out your Sunday best. Together let's preserve your individual story- how it's happening right now.
The bottom line is that I want to be your family photographer. Is Billy getting his first haircut? Give me a call. Sarah's dance recital? Making cookies with Grandma in her kitchen? Whether it's a family gathering or party with friends, a new pet, cutting down the Christmas tree and decorating afterwards, moving out, moving in, visits to the nursing home or hospital…? Call me.
And let's not forget: the babies. Oh, do I love babies, and I encourage new parents to be open to this more candid style of photography. Let's capture some incredibly powerful and genuine images of those first few days and weeks at home with your newborn.
If you're looking to replicate something you've seen on social media that requires a studio with props, then I may not be the gal for you. My best advice is to please review my gallery and if you like what you see, contact me!
